Free Swimming for under 16s and over 60s

For those who are 16 years old and under or 60 years old and over, they can now go swimming for free as part of the new initiative from the government. Starting last Wednesday, almost 300 councils in England began to offer free swimming to residents.

All of the participating pools are offering the scheme in different ways. While some will only ask for proof of age, some will issue a special card that will be needed to go swimming for free each time guests arrive. It is best to check online to find participating locations and their requirements.

Even though the free swimming is for as much as the guest likes, there are certain times that pools are open. For those who are 16 years old and under, they will not be allowed to use the scheme during hours of school. If the closest pool isn’t involved in the scheme, then residents can simply go to another pool to swim for free. This scheme is available until March 31st 2010 at the least.
