Celebrities Close Olympic Games
The closing ceremony for the Olympic Games was a star-studded event, with the likes of Annie Lennox, George Michael, Muse, Tinie Tempah, Take That, One Direction, the Spice Girls, Beafeaters, Elbow, the surviving members of Queen and others. There were also supermodels, drummers, gymnasts and acrobats showing off at the show. All were under cover of coloured lights and fireworks to top it off.
What seems to be the most memorable performance for people is that of the Spice Girls. All of the group - Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Mel Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) and Mel Brown (Scary Spice) - reunited for the event. They performed hits Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life, 16 years after their rise to fame.
After the show, Geri posted on Twitter that the event was amazing, and she thanked the crowd and fans. Victoria tweeted a photo of the girls backstage and said that they did it and that she loves the girls so much. However, it’s doubtful they will reunite for any other performances in the future, as it’s understood to have taken some major persuading to get them to do this one.
Although the closing ceremony was star-studded, there were some top celebrities to turn down the chance to perform at the show. Some of these included David Bowie, Kate Bush, Sex Pistols and the Rolling Stones. Bush, however, praised a great show in a post on her website. The Who almost didn’t perform, as they turned down the chance twice before deciding to go ahead with it.
