Concerns over Pope Benedict XVI’s Health Continue to Grow
Recently Pope Benedict XVI announced that he’s going to step down from his role as the Pope. The 85-year-old admitted that he’s simply too tired and can no longer carry out the role. However, others believe that this announcement may have been made due to the Pope’s deteriorating health. This is something that the Vatican has been very quick to deny.
Concerns about the Pope’s health started during his trip to Mexico last year. During this trip he had a fall and hit his head. To make matters worse, reports also show that, the next day, the Pope awoke to find his pillow soaked with blood.
The details of this fall were kept hidden at the time. Recently, however, they have been brought to light with reports that the Pope is going to step down from his role. Despite all of the controversy around this, the Vatican stands behind its original statement that the Pope’s health is just fine.
Of course, this is not the first time that Pope Benedict XVI has slipped and fell. Some may remember that this report mirrors a similar incident that happened back in July of 2009. It was at this time that the Pope slipped during the night on his way to the bathroom. Apparently this took place while the Pope was on break in the Italian Alps. This fall fractured his wrist.
It is important to note that the Pope has been under a lot of stress recently as well. In fact, reports say that the Pope has been badly affected by the Vatileaks scandal that broke out last year. For those who don’t remember, this scandal brought to light bitter rivalries that were taking place within the Church. The documents were apparently leaked to the Italian media by a butler who was on the “inside”.
