Sainsburys website glitch
July 11, 2008
Giant supermarket chain Sainsburys had to suspend its online store on Thursday because of a problem with its internet service provider.
The site, which is now back in working order, was closed after glitches with Sainsburys internet services provider Cable & Wireless.
Cable & Wireless supply web hosting to a number of large UK companies.
Sainsburys have said that a number of clients have been troubled at one of its sites after equipment was stolen.
This is the second time Sainsburys site has had major technical problems. In June the home delivery site was closed for two days.
A Cable & Wireless spokesman said “The issues have arisen following a break-in at one of our network sites in Watford, in which some of our equipment was stolen. This has interrupted services to customers for whom we provide managed hosting services.”
They also said they were investigating the problem.
The difficulties in June affected more than 10,000 online Sainsburys shoppers.
Sainsburys offered affected customers a £10 voucher as compensation.
