Microsoft is going to be launching the Zune HD, which will be a new high definition version of their Zune personal media player. This is, what many believe, the company’s last effort to revive Zune, and the Zune HD is suppose to rival the iPod Touch and iPhone devices from Apple.
Possible specifics have been leaked about the new device, as pictures of the Zune HD were posted around the net during the weekend. According to experts who are close to the manufacturers, the device is going to have a 16:9 OLED touch-screen and multi-touch support like the iPhone. It is also said that the Zune HD will have an HDMI port for users to connect to a high definition television via a digital cable.
The Zund HD will also feature a web browser, as well as enhanced wireless capabilities to allow synchronization with the contacts, photos, and music of its users without haing to be plugged into their computer. Talk has also been spread about the Zune range being sold in the United Kingdom, other European countries, and Canada. Currently Zune is only available in the United States.
Rumors have also been spread that the new device will run a version of the upcoming Windows Phone operating system. This will allow users to download and install more software and applications to the device. If these rumors are right, then the Zune HD from Microsoft will be a good competitor for the iPod by Apple. Microsoft has only had modest success with the Zune, but these better capabilities of the device could change this.
