Alton Towers is thinking about building a third hotel property as part of a plan to develop over a ten-year period worth millions of pounds in order to consolidate the position of the resort as the number one theme park in the country. Merlin Entertainments, the parent company, is set to outline the proposals to the district council sometime in the next couple months.

The blueprint for the plan is going to include a great investment in heritage features, infrastructure, new rides, as well as more on-site accommodations. Currently, the Alton Towers resort employs 2,900 people locally, as well as brings in an income of £38 million to the local economy. Providing a third hotel will offer a boost in jobs for the area.

Right now, there are 1,594 guests that can be given accommodations on-site of the resort each night, spread among the Alton Towers Hotels and Splash Landings. Alton Towers Hotels, which is 13 years old, features 175 rooms, while Splash Landings has 216 rooms and features an indoor water park as well.

Liz Greenwood, the corporate communications manager for Alton Towers, said that they have completed a detailed survey on the impact of the economy, which looks at how their business affects those around them, as well as the broader district and county. During the next decade, many millions of pounds are going to be invested into the resort for attractions, the house and peripheral activities, heritage, infrastructure, rides, and more accommodations, she continued. Ten percent of Alton Towers’ guests stay the night with them, Greenwood added, which means that there is a big marketing opportunity for local hotel providers to tap into.
