April 17, 2008
The German firm E.on has, according to reports from Germany, no plans to bid for the nuclear power station operator British Energy.
E.on was expected to be a major contender for the British Energy group. British Energy have said that they are in discussion with a number of parties over the future of the Governments 35 per cent stake.
In the German Edition of the Financial Times a spokesman for E.on is reported to have said “We have looked at the company and its power plants. We will neither bid on our own or together with others”.
E.on have continually maintained that it is interested in participating in Government plans to renew and expand the UK’s nuclear energy capacity.”
The power firm has also announced this week that they will be creating 465 jobs at three of its sites in Nottingham. The jobs will be mainly customer service roles.
E.on, which owns Powergen, already employs 3,500 people in the city.
Human relations spokesperson for E.on UK’s retail division, Mandy Flatley said “It’s a real joy to be able to bring even more jobs to the city. We’re working hard with Nottingham’s other employers to ensure we can attract as many local people as possible”.
