Carrentals.co.uk, the leading car hire comparator, has reported an increase in sales, despite the credit crunch. The company says that they had a 50% growth during the first quarter, ahead of their revenue target. They also had a 30% increase in year-on-year revenue.

Carrentals.co.uk generated more than £16 million in sales during the year until January 2009, and they are continuing to grow their share of the market, even though these are difficult trading times for the travel industry. Their success has come in only 6 years, with the site being launched in 2003. The site was originally a car hire broker, but in 2007 Carrentals.co.uk became a car hire comparison site. In the 2008 Travolution Awards, the site won Best Car Hire Website, and in the 2008/09 Good Ski Guide Oscars, the site won Best Ski Car Rental.

Now Carrentals.co.uk compares prices from as many as 35 rental agencies in more than 9,000 destinations, the most out of any comparator. The site can also be found in the top 10 most visited car hire websites list regularly in Hitwise reports. Most recently, Carrentals.co.uk ranked number 5 with nearly 5% of traffic in the UK. Repeat bookings have also reached 15% on the site, which is thanks to their customer focus on service and value.

Gareth Robinson, the managing director, said that demand during Q1 was ahead of target consistently, and this underlines the quality service they offer, with a CPA-based comparison model that offers more competitive prices and wider choice to customers, as well as a fairer system for suppliers. Trading conditions are tough for many travel companies right now, he continued, and those who will emerge strong from this are those who are focused on giving customers the best prices and choices. Carrentals.co.uk makes “it easy for visitors to compare rental prices from both leading providers and specialist companies,” Robinson added, “and we will continue to develop the site to ensure the best possible customer experience.”
