Thailand has been declared the number one tourist destination for the Asia Pacific region when it comes to getting good value for money by CNN International. The Online Consumer Survey (OCS) on Travel and Tourism attracted over 5000 participants worldwide who voted China as the runner up and India in third.
It was also revealed that the credit crunch doesn’t seem to be hitting determined holidaymakers and the current financial situation is simply encouraging consumers to look for cheaper deals to get the most for their money.
The surprising survey also exposed 79% of people planning on traveling to Asia will still be taking their vacation in the next 12 months and they remain undeterred by the bleak economy. A whopping 71% will continue to fly long haul to far flung destinations for leisure but they will do fewer trips and spend time searching out hotels deals and cheap flights.
A further 83% of business travellers currently have a say in which airline they fly with and where they stay when they travel for business and claim they will not be changing their ways in the near future.
These results prove that although the harsh financial times are taking a toll on spending habits, the public are refusing to miss out on a holiday completely. “These results send a strong signal to tourism boards that smart destination branding is critical for country differentiation and return on investment,” said William Hsu, VP Advertising Sales for CNN International William Hsu, VP Advertising Sales for CNN International.
