New iPhone 3G S Revealed by Apple
The smart phone battle got a little tougher on Monday when Apple announced a new faster iPhone, as well as price custs for the old iPhone. This announcement came as the company, who has been the pacesetter for innovation in the smart phone market, faces tougher competition from other companies striving to dominate a section of the technology market that is playing a big role in the lives of people every day.
People have begun to rely on their phones more and more every day for everything from digital maps to entertainment centers. The biggest competition that Apple has for the iPhone is the Palm Pre, which was released last Friday in small shipments.
Adam Schechter, a Precision Consulting developer, said that one can’t really call the iPhone a phone, as it is really a platform. The new iPhone, which is called the iPhone 3G S, will be three times as fast as the current version. It will also include video capabilities, along with simple editing, sharing functions, a digital compass, and voice control. Apple has also said that the battery life will be longer.
Two new models of the phone will be released on June 19th. These will be 16 gigabyte and 32 gigabyte versions, which will be sold for $199 and $ 299 respectively to eligible current and new customers with a contract from AT&T, their US mobile partner.
At the same time, however, Apple will cut the cost of the older 8 gigabyte version to only $99. Phil Schiller, the vice president of Apple, said that they really hope this will open up the market even more.
