Games profits boost by Wii and PS3

April 30, 2008

The game and computer console retailer Game have seen profits rise by more than 150 per cent from last year.

Chairman Peter Lewis said it had been an “outstanding” year.

This year’s sales have been further boosted by this week’s release of Grand Theft Auto 4, which is expected to become the best selling game of all time.

Popular consoles such as the Nintendo Wii and Sony’s PS3 have increased the appeal of gaming to a far wider audience. Last year, sales of computer games overtook sales of recorded music for the first time.

The Game group said it is 2very confident” about the year ahead and expect pre-tax profit to be around £90m.
