Kenny Perry Sets Record in Travelers Championship

Kenny Perry, the 48-year-old who was ranked 92nd in the world, set a course record on Sunday in the Travelers Championship. He shot a 63, which is 22-under-par 258, and had a three-stroke victory over David Toms and Paul Goydos.

Perry led the leaderboard after each of the first two rounds at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut. He trailed by only one stroke behind Paul Goydos going into the final round. His response was shooting a 32 on the front nine, leaving him up by five going into the 15th hole, where he birdied, and put the tournament away by shooting another birdie on the 17th hole after a 164-yard approach.

Perry said that he knew that he had to keep shooting birdies and wasn’t going to let up. He didn’t want to play defensive golf, he added.

The golfer has won five times in just over one year, which is more than any player on tour. He only had three PGA Tour wins before he turned 40, and now he is aiming to have twenty career victories. The Travelers Championship win gives him fourteen career wins, and moves him to the top of the FedEx Cup standings.

About reaching twenty career wins, Perry says that he’s making people think, as six more wins is a lot of victories. He has won three in the past year, two of which were this year, he continued. If he gets on a streak again - winning two more by the end of this year - twenty wins may be realistic, Perry added.
