Yemenia Airways Airbus Crashes – 1 Teen Girl out of 153 Passengers Found Alive
On Tuesday, a Yemenia Airways plane crashed into the Indian Ocean near the Comoros Islands, which is close to Madagascar, carrying 153 people - 11 crew and 142 passengers. So far, only one passenger has been found alive among the wreckage, a 14-year-old girl. It is feared that the other 152 people on the Airbus didn’t survive the crash.
After reports that a child had survived the catastrophe, rescuers then revealed that a teenage girl was found alive. Ramulati Ben Ali, a spokeswoman for Red Cross, said that the girl was taken to the El Maarouf hospital. She added that they were told her condition is not a big concern. Apparently the girl will live and hasn’t been seriously injured.
One of the rescuers told Europe 1 Radio that the girl was seen swimming among the plane debris and other bodies about 1:00am GMT. They said that they tried to throw a life buoy to her, but she couldn’t grab it, so they had to get in the water to get her. The rescuer said that they put her in four blankets and gave her sugary, hot water.
Ada Mansour, the doctor who examined the girl at the hospital, said that she is conscious and speaking, but they are trying to keep her warm after she had been swimming in the cold water.
No other survivors have been confirmed being found, but there was a report earlier that a 5-year-old boy had been found. This report wasn’t confirmed by officials, and rescue teams have started recovering bodies.
