‘America’s Got Talent’ Returns with a Bang

‘America’s Got Talent’ on the NBC network got even bigger during its return to the network on Tuesday. During the one-hour show, it became the most-watched show of the summer for the network, surpassing even its two-hour premier last week. The show averaged 12.9 million viewers total, which is an increase from 11.3 million for the premier, according to Nielsen Media Research.

In figures week to week among adults between the ages of 18 and 49, there were 16 percent more viewers, averaging a 3.7 rating and 11 shares; while the premier only averaged a 3.2. This has boosted NBC to a win for the night, averaging a 2.6 rating and 8 shares, while competing against the CBS network’s ‘The Superstars’, a sports competition show, which gave the network an average of only a 2.0 and 6 shares.

‘America’s Got Talent’ also grew by 19 percent in comparison to the second week of the show in the previous season last year, when the show had a 3.1 rating and 9 shares. It also grew by another 1.2 million viewers. Furthermore, Tuesday’s show grew by 15 percent in ratings in just the second half-hour of its airing, as well as had 1.7 million more viewers, than the first half of the show.

This now puts NBC’s ‘America’s Got Talent’ as the highest rated show of the summer so far, while ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ on the Fox network slides into second place with strong results as well - a 2.9 rating and 9 shares. Following behind in third is ABC’s ‘Wipeout’, another sports competition show, with a 2.8 rating and 9 shares.
