Plane avoids crash landing in Mexico City

A Boeing 737 plane avoided crashing after the passenger jets tires on its landing gear blew as the plane touched down on the runway on Thursday in the capital city of Mexico. The flight was operated by a domestic carrier called Aviacsa airlines and the flight had originated in Tuxtla Gutierrez carrying 48 passengers and five crew members.

It was confirmed by the airport spokesman, Victor Mejia, that none of the people on board were injured and the pilot was praised for being able to control the plane onto a taxi-way after narrowly avoiding crashing off the landing strip.

Back in June, the Mexican government briefly halted Aviacsa flights due to growing safety concerns but the airline took the case to court and won the injunction. The Mexican airline successfully argued the case that they have insufficient staff to inspect the safety of their planes, the argument that the government brought to the table in order to ground the aviation company.

During the shutdown order, 25 aircrafts were grounded and the plane involved in Thursday’s incident is one of them, stated the Communications and Transportation Department. The plane was built back in 1982 and so far Aviacsa have refused to comment on the incident.
