Violin returned
May 7, 2008
Violinist Philippe Quint played a special concert to say thank you to the New York taxi driver who returned the 285 year old violin, after Mr Quint had left it in the back of a taxi after returning home from a performance.
The driver Mohamed Khalil found the violin in the back of the taxi. Mr Quint had rung the police and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Mr Khalil was then put in touch with Philippe Quint and the violin was returned with the taxi driver not knowing how valuable the violin was, around $4m.
The Egyptian taxi driver was given a $50 reward and a private 30 minute performance by Philippe Quint and also tickets to another of Quints performances.
