‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ is King of Box Office

‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’, which is the sixth film in the series, became a total success in its weekend debut, making an estimated $79.5 million. Since the film was debuted on Wednesday, the film made an impressive $159.7 million during its first five days of screenings in the US. This is the best 5-day debut that a ‘Harry Potter’ film has ever had.

Although the film is rated PG for more families with children to watch, ‘Harry Potter’ left some room for that audience, especially with ‘Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’ in theaters as well, which made $17.7 million, putting it in second at the box office. ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ took the third spot this weekend with $13.8 million, but the film has grossed $363 million since its debut.

Taking the fourth spot in the box office results was ‘Bruno’, which dropped significantly in popularity to only make an additional $8.4 million during the weekend. The film barely beat out ‘The Hangover’, which took the fifth spot with $8.3 million.

Coming in the sixth spot slightly behind fifth was ‘The Proposal’ with about $8.3 million as well. In seventh place was ‘Public Enemies’ with $7.6 million, while Disney’s ‘Up’ took the eighth spot with $3.1 million. Rounding out the top ten were ‘My Sister’s Keeper’ and ‘I Love You Beth Cooper’ with $2.9 and $2.7 million respectively.

‘Days of Summer’ came in at number twelve on the list, but is worth mentioning as it is an indie romantic comedy from Fox Searchlight. The film stars Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The opening of the movie made $0.8 million for the weekend and only showed in 27 theaters.
