Grand Theft Auto IV – Biggest game ever

Grand Theft Auto IV is fast becoming the world’s biggest selling game ever. Selling 631,000 copies on its first day of release in Britain, making it the biggest ‘day 1 launch’ in the UK. Over 920,000 copies have now been sold in Britain and the game has taken over £250m in global sales in its first week of release.
Strauss Zelnick, from the makers Take Two Interactive Software said “Grand Theft Auto IV’s first week performance represents the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment, and we believe these retail sales levels surpass any movie or music launch to date”.
Its rumoured that in the run-up to its release, some online retailers including play.com, were taking 80 orders a minute for the game. “The success hasn’t really surprised anyone. It seems to have taken the specialist and the mainstream media by storm” said Gav Ogden, editor of computerandvideogames.com.
