‘The Ugly Truth’ a Movie for Men
A lot of people are under the assumption that ‘The Ugly Truth’, which stars Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl, is a chick flick, because it’s a romantic comedy. However, Butler believes that this film is more for the men than the women.
Butler says that Mike, his chauvinistic television show host character, brings so much raunchiness to the film that men are sure to love the dirty comments, which are suppose to be advice, that he gives to his female boss, Abby, on how to attract guys. The dirty advice, however, does always hit on something that is truthful. Butler added that he thinks of the film as more of a sex comedy.
Butler even said that he agreed with some of Mike’s advice, as there is a lot of truth to the way that guys heed things in relationships and how they don’t speak their minds often. There is also a huge difference between men and women, he continued, in the way they view life, sex, relationships, and seduction.
During the film’s box office debut, ‘The Ugly Truth’ made the third spot in the top ten with $27 million in ticket sales. This is a career best for director Robert Luketic, as well as Heigl. The movie was beat out by ‘G-Force’, which stars Nicolas Cage, Will Arnett and Penelope Cruz, making $32.2 million for its debut weekend, while ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ brought in $30 million after being in theaters for more than a week already.
Another release this weekend was ‘Orphan’ from Warner Bros, which stars Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard. The movie made $12.8 million among an audience of 55% females.
