Taj Majal to become theme park

In a move that has outraged much of the civilized world, officials in India are planning to turn the Taj Mahal into a tourist theme park complete with a giant Ferris wheel similar to the London Eye, only bigger.

Besides the Ferris wheel, dubbed the Agra Eye, the park will be complete with rope walks strung about the well-known landmark and cable cars zooming to and from adjacent tourist attractions.

As bizarre as that may sound, the Agra Development Authority that came up with the scheme thinks it’s a great plan and are well on their way to ruining one of the world’s most romantic and awe inspiring buildings.

Tanveer Zafar Ali, vice chairman of the group, said, “The first ropeway will stretch from the back of the Taj Mahal across the Yumuna [river] up to the Mehtab Bagh, while the second ropeway will link Mehtab Bagh with Agra Fort. The tourism sector needs a facelift.”

The plan still has to be approved the Supreme Court and the Architectural Survey of India. Hopefully, someone will come to their senses and stop the fiasco. Several groups have come out against the plan including the influential Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage that called the project “most insensitive”.
