Exploding iPods going off around the world
Last week it was revealed by Ken Stanborough from Liverpool that his daughter’s iPod had exploded and that Apple was trying to buy his silence. Since then, reports have surfaced around the globe from other iPod owners who have had similar experiences.
A reporter in the United States was finally able to get access to documentation compiled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission that reportedly shows case after case of exploding iPods.
As with the Liverpool iPod case, Apple tried its best to keep the information hushed up but was unsuccessful because the US Freedom of Information Act provides safeguards to access such information.
Mr.Stanborough reported that his daughter’s iPod overheated and exploded jumping 10 feet into the air. When he asked for a refund, Apple sent him a letter demanding that the matter be kept confidential.
“I thought it was a very disturbing letter. If we inadvertently did say anything, no matter what, they would take litigation against us. I thought that was absolutely appalling. We didn’t ask for compensation, we just asked for our money back.” said Stanborough.
Japan has warned its citizens about fourteen cases of problems with the iPod Nano overheating.
In Ohio, Apple has been sued over an iPod that allegedly blew up while in someone’s pocket.
