ACORN Investigation Favored by Obama

President Obama says that ACORN should be investigated after being videotaped by a posing pimp and prostitute. Employees of the activist group were filmed recently advising the posing couple on how to lie about their profession and launder their earnings in order to get aid to buy a home.

This video is only the most recent trouble ACORN has gotten into, as they have had almost $1 million embezzled by the brother of the founder, as well as have been accused of faking voter registrations. Last week, the House and Senate voted to cease federal funding to the organization.

Since then, Obama has said that he saw the video, which was posted on YouTube, and what he saw was inappropriate. He believes the group should be investigated, but he didn’t say who needed to do it, as this isn’t a major national issue that he pays a lot of attention to and hasn’t followed closely. He added that he didn’t even know ACORN was getting a lot of federal funds.

Bertha Lewis, the chief executive of ACORN, says that Obama believing the organization needs to be investigated is his opinion. She also said that the group would launch their own investigation, and the independent auditor is to be announced today (Monday, September 21).

Meanwhile, Lewis says that the group is suspending the admission of new clients for the housing program. They will be putting all their efforts into the investigation during the next several weeks so that they can put it behind them and get back to focusing on their critical work for low- to moderate-income families.
