Morrisons refuses mother bottle of wine because of daughter has no I.D.

Supermarket chain Morrisons have come under fire for refusing to sell a bottle of wine to the mother of a seventeen-year-old girl. Jackie Slater was standing at the shops check-out when the check-out assistant said that before she could ring through the bottle of wine Mrs. Slater wanted to buy she would have to see identification to prove that both her niece and her daughter were of drinking age.

Even after telling the assistant that the wine was for herself and her husband the check-out assistant refused to budge saying that it was now the stores policy to check everyone’s I.D. Mrs. Slater said that she was made to feel like a criminal and that her daughter had found the whole incident embarrassing.

Morrisons have since refused to show any repentance for their treatment of mother and daughter and say that the rules are in place to protect customers and their families as well as society at large.

Liberal Democrat, Greg Mulholland who is Mrs. Slater’s M.P. declared that the Morrisons policy not to sell wine to a woman who is out shopping with her daughter was absurd. He went on to point out that such a policy is not going to stop youngsters from drinking alcohol and that the supermarket should show a little more common sense.
