Know the Symptoms of H1N1 and How to Prevent Getting It
The H1N1 flu has been a big concern all around the world as flu season draws nearer and more deaths from the virus are added to the total. Programs for vaccinating against the swine flu are underway in Australia, China, and the United States, while Europe is soon to start, but there are things that people can do to prevent getting the virus. It’s also good if they know what the symptoms of H1N1 are.
The seasonal flu is a virus that infects the lungs, nose and throat and kills between 250,000 and 500,000 people around the world. These are usually elderly people, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases and very young children. This is due to their low immune system, making it harder for their bodies to fight off the illness.
The H1N1 virus (swine flu) is a new strain of the common flu, but its symptoms are no different: sore throat or coughing, stuffy or runny nose, body aches, headaches, fever, fatigue and getting the chills. However, the swine flu can also cause diarrhea and vomiting. The thing that makes the H1N1 swine flu so defined from other viruses that cause these same symptoms is how fast the symptoms are brought on.
There are actually quite simple ways to prevent getting the swine flu, and these are also things that anyone would use to keep themselves from getting any illness. Simply covering your mouth or nose when coughing or sneezing will help to prevent spreading germs. Wash your hands with soap and water after sneezing or coughing, and use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when you can’t get to a sink. Also avoid touching your mouth, eyes and nose as much as you can, and try not to be around people who are already sick.
