US Striker Charlie Davies Sustained Serious Injuries after Car Accident
Charlie Davies, who is an American soccer player that joined the US national team this year, was in a deadly one-car accident early Tuesday morning on the George Washing Memorial Parkway, which is in Alexandria, Virgina. Davies was a passenger with two people when the crash occurred at about 3:15am, during which the car hit a metal railing.
One of the people in the car with him was Ashley J. Roberta, age 22, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The other traveler and Davies were transported to the Washington Hospital Center Medstar. Davies, who is only 23, was reported to be in serious condition after being in a long surgery after the crash. However, they don’t believe his injuries to be life-threatening, but they consist of a lacerated bladder, fractured elbow, tibia and femur, as well as facial injuries. It isn’t for sure yet how these injuries will affect his career, according to a US Soccer Federation spokesman.
The police sergeant on the scene, David Scholsser, said that they aren’t for sure who the driver of the car was. They are still investigating the accident, as they don’t know yet if excessive speed or alcohol were the cause of the crash. It is known, however, that the soccer team was in the D.C. Area for the World Cup qualifying game against Costa Rica, which was set for tonight.
Bob Bradley, the team’s coach, said that the team is saddened over the news, and their thoughts and prayers are with Charlie, his family, as well as those who were in the car with him and their families. He added that the team is relying on each other for support during this difficult time.
