Mother lied about son’s health to claim benefits
A mother who constantly said her boy was sick has pleaded guilty to charges of child cruelty and perverting the course of justice. The woman, who cannot be named at present for legal reasons, constantly lied to health officials about the state of her son’s health in order to claim benefits. The boy who is now 8-years-old was made to ride in a wheel chair when out in public even though there was nothing wrong with him. His mother also told doctors that he suffered from dysphagia, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis and allergies to wheat and gluten based foods. She even claimed he was diabetic and provided blood samples that had been doctored to prove it.
The boy’s mother also claimed that she had a medical background even though she did not and would get angry at medical professionals if they tried to contradict her diagnoses of her son’s made up illnesses. She would dress up as a nurse when caring for her son and sometimes hook him up to a drip.
In private the boy was allowed to run around out of his wheel chair and eat the foods he was supposed to be allergic to. In public however he appeared in his wheelchair. The school he attends even spent money on making the school buildings more wheel chair friendly. The mother is due to be sentenced in the New Year and the boy is now in the care of the authorities.
