Lil’ Wayne Pleads Guilty to Weapon Possession and Faces 1 year Jail Sentence
Lil’ Wayne plead guilty to attempted weapons possession on Thursday and is now facing a sentence of 8 months to 1 year in jail. The 27-year-old was originally charged will illegal gun possession when police discovered a .40 caliber pistol on him in 2007 after smelling like marijuana. Lil’ Wayne initially plead not guilty to the charges, which carried a minimum 3 ½ year jail sentence, but changed his plea to avoid the longer sentence.
The rapper has been released on a $30,000 bail and will remain free until his sentencing in February. He is also the father of 3 and expecting his fourth child with Nivea, another 27-year-old singer. This will be his third child in about the last year.
However, Lil’ Wayne is sure to be in for a longer ride, as he was caught with 29 grams of cocaine, 41 grams of ecstasy, 105 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in addition to a handgun. Authorities discovered the goods on the singer’s tour bus in 2008. What…were there no other good places to hide illegal substances? This case is set for a March trial - after he is sentenced for the weapons possession. No doubt he will serve even more time.
Lil’ Wayne is joining a list of rappers who have been arrested on weapons charges in the past. Most recently, T.I. was sentenced in March this year to 1 year in prison on federal gun possession charges and started his sentence two months later. He was arrest for these charges in 2007, only 3 months after Lil’ Wayne was. Don’t they ever learn?
