Sir Elton John cancels show after contracting the flu

Influenza has been utterly undiscriminating this year afflicting a diverse crowd. With swine flu epidemic remaining strong across the globe, any incidents of the flu have been taken with extra caution this year. Joining the long list of flu sufferers this year is none other than Sir Elton John.

The famous songwriter and performer has been forced to cancel a major showcase of his Red Piano tour scheduled to take place last night, after suddenly coming down with the flu. The singer announced that he was heartbroken to cancel the show disappointing thousands of fans. Sir Elton John’s doctors advised the singer to rest and cancel his evening show at the Sheffield Arena.

Promoters for the venue and Sir Elton John’s show last night have advised fans to retain their tickets and await further announcements to be made Monday regarding rescheduling and make-up dates. They also added that tonight’s show at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle should remain unaffected.

A spokesman for Sir Elton John’s camp said that the singer was incredibly sad as he usually gets a great crowd when performing in Sheffield. The promoters added that no other dates are expected to be cancelled due to the singer’s sudden illness, but that more announcements will be made on Monday in regards to the performers condition.
