Robbie Williams to receive Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at BRITs

After a ground-breaking comeback on the X-Factor, Robbie Williams is once again proving his staying power. The popstar has been announced as next year’s recipient for the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at the 2010 BRIT Awards.

Also on the ticket for the performer next year is a showcase at a ceremony at London’s Earls Court scheduled for February 16, 2010. So far the singer already holds the most number of awards for the ceremony boasting 11 being granted to him over the years. People who have gone before Williams in this same category include Oasis, Paul McCartney, Pet Shop Boys, U2, and David Bowie.

Robbie Williams won his first ever award at the BRITs as a member of the group Take That, when their hit song, ‘Could It Be Magic’ won Best Single back in 1993. The group won three more awards before Robbie left to go solo in 1995.

Williams won his first solo award at the BRITs in 1999 when he earned the title Best British Male Artist, and for the consecutive five years following that he took another award each year. In 2005, the popstar performed at the BRITs his hit single ‘Angels’ in conjunction with Joss Stone, and the artist has also performed a duet with Tom Jones at the awards ceremony.
