Man killed by a sneeze

A seventy-nine year old man has died after sneezing. John Oram, a retired design engineer was seen sneezing by staff at the care home he was living in just before he collapsed. Two days later he was dead. The sneeze is thought to have brought on a heart attack and a brain hemorrhage. South Devon Coroner, Ian Arrow has recorded that the death was accidental and said that the medicine that Mr. Oram was taking at the time of the fatal sneeze could have contributed to his death. The drug Warfarin which Mr. Oram was taking because of his diabetes can thin the blood which could have made Mr. Oram more susceptible to sustaining internal trauma.

Mr. Oram’s son Mark said that it was shocking that his father could die from something as innocuous as a sneeze. He said that he realized that his father’s on going heart condition probably contributed to his death and went on to say that he would be missed by everyone who knew him.

Two of the staff at Mr. Oram’s nursing home said that Mr. Oram’s sneeze was spectacular enough to have been noticed by them. It was shortly after the sneeze that he collapsed and the coroner says that on balance it is most likely that the sneeze was the thing that finally did it for Mr. Oram’s heart and brain.
