Google Music OneBox Service Unveiled

Google officially launched its new music search service called OneBox, which came after rumors hit the net that one was coming out. The new service was revealed at a West Hollywood event on Wednesday, but its availability is limited only to the US right now.

Marissa Mayer, the vice president of search for Google, said at the event that they are excited to introduce the music search feature. It will allow users to play a whole song to verify it is the song they are searching for.

The best way to describe OneBox is a ramped up search engine for music, which is integrated into the regular search bar. Users can type in the name of a song into Google and will get info about the song and a link to stream it from and listen to it. MySpace Music and LaLa have both signed agreements with the online giant to stream the tunes. Links for streams may also appear when users search for the name of an artist or album.

Additionally, Google has teamed up with Gracenote from Sony to provide song info when searching for song lyrics. Those who have trouble with typing or spelling will be prompted with the correct lyrics by Google’s Suggest function.

OneBox will most definitely be used by millions, and the great thing about it is that it’s very easy to use. Plus, it works great, with most artists popping with their most popular songs. Users can simply click on one of the songs and a separate little window will open to play the song. This really makes searching for music easy!
