Jamelia and Darren Byfield Divorce after 18 months
Singer Jamelia has been confirmed to be divorcing Walsall footballer Darren Byfield after being married for only 18 months. The couple had an on and off relationship, during which they had a baby, and then married in June 2008 in West Sussex.
The couple had been together since before 2005, as they had Tiana (now 4 years old) in October that year - Jamelia also has an 8-year-old daughter, Teja, from a relationship before Darren. Then in August of 2007 the pair split, but then they got back together and announced an engagement in October the same year after Darren proposed at a surprise birthday party for himself.
A statement on behalf of the couple said that they regret to confirm they are getting a divorce. They made sure to note that no other party is involved in the breakup, and they are putting their children first.
Jamelia recently attended the “Dead Man Running” premier in London. She has won MOBO, Q, Urban Music and Eska awards and has been nominated for the Brit Awards, Mercury Music Prize, and a Popjustice award. The R&B artist has only had one tour, the “Thank You Tour”, in 2004. She has also appeared as a guest presenter on a few television shows.
Currently, Jamelia is working on a new album, and a new song has popped up on the internet entitled “Break It Down, Tear It Up”. It isn’t known if the song will be featured on the new album or if she will release it as a single. She has also been cast in films “Jericho’s Walls Are Falling” (currently in production) and “Magic Boys” (to start filming next year).
