Arlene Phillips Named Director at Sadler’s Wells Theatre

Arlene Phillips, a former judge for the dance reality show, Strictly Come Dancing, announced that she has been named the new director for the Sadler’s Wells Theatre. Ms. Phillips, whose background is in choreography, reported that she was “thrilled” to be coming on as the director for the theatre, which is most famous in the dancing community.

Ms. Phillips was most recently in the media after she was unexpectatedly dismissed from her role as judge on Strictly Come Dancing. Many people have spoken out against her sudden dismal saying that she has been discriminated against due to her age.

The 66-year old will now be directing the London venue where she was once a judge for the hit BBC TV show. After over 4,000 complaints rolled in following Ms. Phillips firing from the reality dance show, the BBC vehemently denied rumors and complaints that Ms. Phillips was let go because of her age.

Despite ending her partnership with Strictly Come Dancing, Ms. Phillips continues to work elsewhere in the industry. Currently she works as a resident expert on The One Show for BBC, is a member of Dance Champions Group, a government run dance campaign, as well as being scheduled to guest judge for BBC’s newest reality dance programme, So You Think You Can Dance.

In so far as Sadler’s Wells board of directors goes, Ms. Phillips will be helping to manage the governance of the theatre as well as acting as ambassador for the venue. Currently, she is also serving for one of the Sadler’s Wells on dance competitions called the Global dance Contest, which is conducted online.

Ms Phillips appointment to the board is expected to go into effect at the venue’s November 25 board meeting.
