Craig Kelly exits Strictly Come Dancing in front of a home crowd

It was not to be Craig Kelly’s big night as he performed in front of a home crowd in Blackpool on this week’s Strictly Come Dancing. Craig and his partner Flavia Cacace only managed to scrape seventeen points from the judges. Len Goodman explained that he knew how important it had been for Craig to make it to the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. However, now he had done it was time for him to leave as he was the weakest dancer in the competition. Craig Kelly was not so sure that his performance was that bad. He said that he had felt good, but when he asked for confirmation from his dance partner she simply gave him a hug.

Ali Bastian and her dance partner Brian Fortuna found themselves languishing in the relegation zone last week. Her Viennese Waltz this week caused some consternation from the judges, but only because none of them could fault it. She received the maximum forty points.

This week’s show was taken to Blackpool where BBC organizers also put on events in the Winter Gardens to encourage people to get involved with ballroom dancing. The Tower Ballroom was the original setting for the BBC show Come Dancing before it was eventually axed. The dance floor is twice as big as the contestants are usually used to and is built on springs which caused Bruce Forsyth to say that it was like standing of a trampoline. Judge Len Goodman said the whole thing was doing weird things to his backside.
