Winslet algorithm used to work out the value of British stars

Economists attempting to place a value on the creative arts in this country have come up with a new way of working out a film star’s worth. Using Kate Winslet as a model economists have come up with what is affectionately being called the Winslet algorithm. By working out things like a stars average salary along with their ability to influence whether or not a film gets made in the U.K. government funded economists have calculated that Kate Winslet is worth in the region of £60 million.

Head of research and statistics at the U.K. Film Council is David Steele. He says that it is important to know the value of the country’s film stars so that businessmen and politicians can use the information when selling the opportunities of making films in the U.K. to other countries. Commenting on the value placed upon Kate Winslet shadow culture secretary, Jeremy Hunt said that she well deserved it because he thought she did a good job in Revolutionary Road. Mr. Hunt is due to make an announcement soon about plans to revive cool Britannia.

Winslet was used as a test case for the new system of working out a stars value as she was popular abroad and extremely well known according to Steele. He went on to say that other parts of the algorithm took into account how her roles in films like Sense and Sensibility attracted tourists who wished to get a taste of the land in which Jane Austin wrote.

Although Kate Winslet has not yet commented publically about the Winslet algorithm a source close to that actress said she was likely to be flattered as well as amused.
