Fan Throws Plastic Bottle at Morrissey who Storms off Stage
In his last concert of a tour, Morrissey stormed off the stage after being hit with a plastic drink container thrown by someone in the crowd. He was halfway through the second song, “Black Cloud”, of the performance in the Liverpool Echo Arena when the fan launched the missile, which hit him in the eye.
The 50-year-old had opened the concert saying that the night was perfect, as it was raining on Saturday in Liverpool; then he began “This Charming Man”. After starting the second song, he moved to shake some fans’ hands, then the container was thrown from someone in the crowd. Morrissey then told the 80,000 person audience goodnight and walked off the stage.
The fans chanted his name to try to get the concert back on track, but they failed. An announcement was made 5 minutes later that Morrissey wouldn’t be back to continue the show. Morrissey collapsed while performing about three weeks ago, but he continued his tour soon after. It is obvious that he didn’t take kindly to someone throwing a bottle at him.
The arena manager, Tim Banfield, informed the Merseyside Police about the incident immediately. He commented that they are very disappointed that a single person chose to recklessly cause the show to end and ruin the night for thousands of Morrissey’s fans. Banfield added that his team takes great care to make sure that their visitors and performing artists are safe while attending the venue.
One concertgoer said that some of the people around him were complaining that Morrissey should be use to stuff like that by now since he’s been in the business for so long. However, the fan continued that he’s 50, has recently been ill, and deserves better. Totally agreeable!!!
