Keane Hopes to Lead Irish to Victory Against France
Robbie Keane is going to use his memories from the 2002 World Cup experience in order to garner support for his bid for a returning spot on the team eight years later. The skipper, from the Republic of Ireland, at 29-years-old is more seasoned than when his international football career was launched with the World Cup eight years ago.
The skipper says now that he wants to relive the memorable experience from Mick McCarthy’s squad, and would like to play again at the World Cup in South Africa next year. Keane said that talks are already in place to have the World Cup locally, and continued to say that few players get the opportunity to participate in such an event as the World Cup.
Keane will be leading the Irish team in the match against France Saturday night at Croke Park, and then a second match against France in Paris next Wednesday. The two matches are currently standing between Keane and his teammates reaching the World Cup.
Keane continued expressing the sentiment that the upcoming two games would be massive for him and his teammates, and their countrymen. Should the Irish team beat out the French next week, they will continue on to the World Cup finals.
Keane holds the Irish record for international goalscorer having 40 goals in 94 appearances. It is a definite that Keane will be the most formidable player for the French on Saturday’s match, and the Irish have said they may have an aerial advantage over their French counterparts.
Keane said that he does not put pressure on himself to get goals, but at the same time that it was vital that the team make it to South Africa.
