Phil Tufnell is out of Strictly Come Dancing

Cricket legend Phil Tufnell is the latest celebrity to be voted off the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. He and partner Katya Virshilas were forced into a dance off with Eastender Ricky Groves and his partner Erin Boag but were made to say goodbye when Strictly judge, Len Goodman used his deciding vote to keep Groves and Boag on the show for at least one more week. Tufnell can take some comfort in the judge’s praise of his American Smooth which they say proved that he had started to up his game.

The show had to do without host Bruce Forsyth for the first time in its history as he stayed at home with a bout of the ‘flu. Tess Daly took charge and was joined by comedian Ronnie Corbett. Corbett said that he had received a phone call from Forsyth the night before and had to agree to step in at the last minute. He wished the presenter a speedy recovery before using his catch-phrase ‘Nice to see you, to see you nice’.

Two of the competitors were forced to watch the show from the sidelines due to injuries. Laila Rouass, star of Footballer’s Wives was carried off stage by partner Anton du Beke after suffering a sprained ankle and Jade Johnson could not perform because of a knee injury.

Natalie Cassidy once again was praised by all of the judges for her foxtrot and Ricky Whittle along with partner Natalie Lowe cemented their status as the shows favourites with a stunning jive.
