Cindy Crawford German Extortionist Surrenders
The German man who was wanted for trying to blackmail $100,000 from former supermodel Cindy Crawford has turned himself in, according to reports on Tuesday. 26-year-old Edis Kayalar gave himself up to police at Stuttgart Police Station on Monday after returning from a trip to Turkey. His apartment in nearby Wendlingen was then searched.
Kayalar was extorting the former supermodel over a photo of her daughter gagged and tied to a chair, wearing revealing clothes. The picture was taken as a private joke when the 7-year-old’s nanny was playing cops and robbers with her. Kayalar apparently stole the photo from the nanny, who was a friend, and then contacted Crawford last summer, seeking to use the picture to get money from her and her husband Rande Gerber. He said that the media would pay a lot for the photo.
The couple contacted authorities, which prompted a criminal probe. Then earlier this month, Kayalar called them again to demand $100,000. This is when the extortion charges came in, and he was charged for trying to extort money from Crawford and her husband in a Los Angeles federal court for the blackmail last week. Now Kayalar is facing up to two years in prison if he is returned to the US and convicted.
A representative for the couple says that the two intend to pursue any and every legal action they can against anyone who helps Kayalar distribute or sell the picture of their little girl. The couple has been married for 11 years and also have a 10-year-old son.
