The days of slow mobile browsing may be over. Samsung has recently announced that it has finally created 5G mobile technology. If people thought the jump from 3G to 4G was big, the jump to 5G is going to blow them out of the water. This new technology could actually let someone download a movie to their phone in just one second.

Samsung went on to say that 5G is actually several hundred times faster than what 4G is. This new technology will actually let people send massive amounts of data in just seconds with no kind of limitation. It is the new era of mobile technology, and it will change the way people use their phones and tablets.

Of course, Samsung also believes that this new technology will get more people to use their laptops on the go. The company said that most people hate using their laptops if it is not hooked up to Wi-Fi. With 5G, more people would be able to use their computers how they want to, whether they are around internet or not.

On the official Samsung blog, the company said that people using 5G could actually watch 3D movies or stream games in real time in HD. Despite this great news, the technology is still in very early development. So don’t expect to see 5G hitting the market until 2020.

For those who do not know, 4G has the ability to transfer between 12 and 20 megabytes per second. However, this 5G service is said to be able to transfer data up to 1.056 gigabytes per second. However, at this time, 5G only works over a distance of about 2 kilometers. That is why the technology is not ready for public use yet.

Lately, Simon Cowell has been taking a lot of grief from fellow judge David Walliams on Britain’s Got Talent. Apparently, David just continues to make gay comments about Simon. With the next show expected to kick off later this week, it doesn’t seem like David plans to stop anytime soon.

The latest comment from David came while they were searching for a new star for the show. During the search, David suggested that Simon had the hots for one of the stars. In fact, he said that Simon’s nipples are always erect when he sees him. David said that he knows this because he can see them right through his jumper.

Despite all of this, Simon does not seem to be upset about the comments. In fact, while doing an interview on Radio Times, Simon was asked if he is bothered by David’s attacks on his sexuality. To this, Simon said that if he lived 200 years ago in a coal mine, yeah. However, in this day and age, Simon doesn’t see a problem with it. In fact, Simon says that he works in one of the gayest industries in the whole world - TV and music.

Simon added that he honestly feels that it would not make a difference in his career or his life if he was gay. Simon did say that he is not gay, but if he was, he would care less what people think of him. That is because there is nothing to be ashamed of for being gay. The question, “Are you gay?” is kind of an antiquated question now.

When it comes to “talent” shows on TV, none are as popular as X Factor. Despite this fact, Jessie J has decided to diss on the X Factor while defending her choice to come back for a second series of The Voice.

According to Jessie J, she wanted to stick with being a judge on The Voice because it has “credibility”. This is something she feels that X Factor is missing. Instead of going where the money is she wanted to have a chance to help people who really had a talent for signing.

Jessie J, who is known for her song “Price Tag”, said that she definitely would not be on The Voice if it was not credible. She also said that it’s an actual music show that celebrates the gift of music, and does not ridicule people for trying. She feels that critics have been unfair to the show. They have been comparing it to The X Factor. However, it seems unfair to compare a brand new show to something like The X Factor that has been around much longer.

According to Jessie J, The Voice is better than The X Factor because it’s realistic. The Voice is like “nothing else”. Instead of putting people on the stage and laughing at them and bullying them, The Voice tries to help people. It doesn’t want to make quick cash for embarrassing people on TV.

Jessie J, who just recently raised money for Comic Relief by shaving off all her hair, said that she would return to The Voice on 30 March. She will be joined by will.i.am, Danny O’Donoghue and Sir Tom Jones.

Recently Pope Benedict XVI announced that he’s going to step down from his role as the Pope. The 85-year-old admitted that he’s simply too tired and can no longer carry out the role. However, others believe that this announcement may have been made due to the Pope’s deteriorating health. This is something that the Vatican has been very quick to deny.

Concerns about the Pope’s health started during his trip to Mexico last year. During this trip he had a fall and hit his head. To make matters worse, reports also show that, the next day, the Pope awoke to find his pillow soaked with blood.

The details of this fall were kept hidden at the time. Recently, however, they have been brought to light with reports that the Pope is going to step down from his role. Despite all of the controversy around this, the Vatican stands behind its original statement that the Pope’s health is just fine.

Of course, this is not the first time that Pope Benedict XVI has slipped and fell. Some may remember that this report mirrors a similar incident that happened back in July of 2009. It was at this time that the Pope slipped during the night on his way to the bathroom. Apparently this took place while the Pope was on break in the Italian Alps. This fall fractured his wrist.

It is important to note that the Pope has been under a lot of stress recently as well. In fact, reports say that the Pope has been badly affected by the Vatileaks scandal that broke out last year. For those who don’t remember, this scandal brought to light bitter rivalries that were taking place within the Church. The documents were apparently leaked to the Italian media by a butler who was on the “inside”.

Manchester City is convinced that AC Milan is going to take a formal interest in Mario Balotelli this month. Manager Roberto Mancini is losing his patience with the 22-year-old, who he signed in July 2010 from Inter Milan for £24 million, and now the club is ready to sell him in the transfer window is they get an offer around £20 million. At the same time, Inter Milan has shown some interest in the striker, and a loan deal is possible if City indicates a move may be authorised.

AC Milan have been interested in Balotelli for a long time, and chief executive Adriano Galliani hasn’t kept his admiration secret. However, Italian club owner Silvio Berlusconi has described the football player as a “rotten apple”. Earlier this week he seemed to rule out a move, saying that the striker’s name hadn’t come to mind. He added that Balotelli could infect whoever he plays with, including AC Milan.

Despite this, senior Manchester City officials believe the Italian club still has a strong interest in the footballer and that a formal deal could be made if ex-City striker Robinho moves back to Brazil. Even though AC Milan says Robinho won’t be permitted to return to Brazil with Pato, the striker is determined to go back in the run-up to the World Cup next year. A counter offer has been made for the player from Flamengo, while he’s made it clear that he wants to leave.

On Christmas Day, a vehicle of five family members was driving on the M6 near Stoke-on-Trent when it crashed into a tree at 11:25am. Three of the family members were killed in the accident - 4-year-old Arsalaan Habib, 10-year-old Adnan and 32-year-old Bushra Tazarib. The young boys and aunt were riding with 38-year-old Parveen, the boys’ mother, and a 17-year-old, the boys’ sister. They were part of a convoy of eight vehicles going to a wedding for the second cousin of boxing champ Amir Khan.

Staffordshire Police Chief Superintendent Martin Evans says that emergency services worked in exceptionally difficult and very sad circumstances after the crash. Police were at the scene for over three hours clearing the wreckage, which caused traffic congestion on the motorway. The outcome is unfortunately very tragic, and their thoughts are with the family, he added.

Commander Superintendent Gilbert Houalla from High Wycombe Police said their thoughts are with the family. The local policing community will be supportive of them during this hard time. Throughout the investigation, he added, they will continue to provide any needed support.

The family said in a statement that Christmas Day started with joy but turned into a tragedy. The young boys were their precious jewels, who were always smiling, making everyone they met smile and spreading joy wherever they went. Bushra was part of the family through marriage for nearly 14 years. She was vital and always helped and supported everyone in the family all the time. She loved children even though she was never blessed with kids of her own. They thank everyone for their support and want everyone to remember the boys and Bushra in their prayers.

The government has revealed plans that will allow same-sex marriages in England and Wales, though it won’t be legal for the Church of England and Church in Wales to do the ceremonies. The Commons was told by Culture Secretary Maria Miller this week that marriage would be broadened to include same-sex couples in civil ceremonies. This will be allowed by religious groups that want to offer the ceremonies.

A consultation was held on the matter of same-sex marriages earlier this year, when legislation was proposed to allow civil ceremonies for same-sex couples in register offices or approved locations. However, the consultation didn’t cover religious marriages for same-sex couples.

Then this week, Miller gave her assurance that a ‘quadruple lock’ will be initiated to protect religious freedom and make sure religious organisations who don’t want to offer same-sex marriages won’t face legal proceedings. She believes the proposals deliver the right balance between giving same-sex couples the freedom to marry and protecting important freedoms of religion.

The announcement was welcomed by Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary, who said the government shouldn’t keep people from getting married because of their gender. She encouraged the government to not be ‘too reserved’.

While Labour and Liberal Democrat MPs are backing the proposals, the Conservatives are still divided. Stewart Jackson has called the plans constitutionally outrageous, while Cheryl Gillan says a lot of her constituents feel the government is challenging their religious beliefs. However, Bernard Jenkin supports the proposals and says MPs should give every citizen in the country the freedom to marry.

Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health, has requested a review to analyse the advantages of an Ofsted-style rating system being implemented for hospitals and care homes. The purpose of the review is to investigate how a new ratings system could help put a stop to the crisis in standards of care for health and social care. It will particularly focus on how information about services can be publicised and how it can be used to improve standards.

Hunt has criticised the instances of poor care that have previously emerged. One of these cases meant patients were left lying in their own excrement at Stafford Hospital, while residents have been forced to take cold showers, as well as been punched and kicked, at Winterbourne View.

The health secretary said that they have found the opposite of what should be the uppermost compassion and devotion to patients. Instead, there is coldness, indifference, resentment and contempt from caregivers. Some of the worst cases are much darker. Cruelty, cold-heartedness and the legitimacy of the unacceptable have become commonplace. A focus must be put on dignity and respect, as well as a drive for improvement in care standards. A vital part of that is making the performance of institutions more transparent, beginning with a rollout of the family and friends test across the NHS.

Hunt went on to say that they will roll out the test next year. For the first time, patients will be asked if they recommend the care they were given to a family member or close friend. NHS workers will also be anonymously asked if they would recommend their own organisation. This is as close as they can get to staff caring for someone as they would want to be cared for. The results of these surveys will be published, but more will need to be done.

As an MP, the health secretary continued, he knows how well schools are doing due to independent and detailed Ofsted inspections. However, since the Care Quality Commission (CQC) simply measures if the lowest standards are reached, he doesn’t know how hospitals and care homes are doing. He’s not supporting that old ’star ratings’ should return, but the principle of an easy-to-understand, expert, independent assessment of performance comparing these places must be right. This week he requested an independent study on how this can be achieved so bureaucracy isn’t increased.

Hunt has ordered the recommendations by then end of March and is clear that any proposed new ratings system needs clear, simple results patients can understand so that organisations will be driven to excel instead of just achieve the minimum. He also made clear that there should be better certainty that meagre care is discovered early, that there’s no increase in bureaucracy and that managerial accountability is strengthened.

This review will be led by Nuffield Trust director Jennifer Dixon, who says it’s sensible to question how the quality of care is analysed among health and social caregivers considering all the systems in place already to support and monitor the quality received by the public. They look forward to doing an independent assessment of this issue and working with a variety of groups across the industry in the UK to learn from previous experience, other sectors and other nations.

The Local Government Association’s Councillor David Rogers OBE says that providing clarity will deliver assurances for older people who are looking for the best care and support. However, the ratings have to be current and reflect a real picture of car home service levels for them to be trusted and reliable. This means they will need to be no more than two years old, take into account already available information, users’ views and information from local care authorities and other care organisations.

Energy regulator Ofgem and the Financial Services Authority (FSA) are investigating the possibility of price fixing among the UK’s big six energy companies - British Gas, Scottish Power, Npower, SSE, EDF and E.ON. All of the energy suppliers have denied being involved. The investigation will question how market prices are set and determine if energy companies are profiting from the market.

The probe has been launched after allegations were made that the wholesale gas market is being regularly manipulated. Energy companies purchase gas at wholesale prices and then sell it to domestic users and businesses. A whistlebower, who worked for a financial information firm that publishes reports on energy prices, told the Guardian that there were several unusual trades in the market on 28 September. They claim that the dealers made unrealistic offers, trying to set gas prices.

Energy Secretary Ed Davey says that he asked the regulators if the energy companies need more authority. In a Parliament statement, he said that they will act if they find that more powers are needed. There are powers to take on individuals and businesses which are guilty of wrongdoing, and they will use these depending on the results of the investigation.

The government has been pushing energy suppliers to get control of costs after SSE Plc and Centrica, which owns British Gas, raised prices for customers. Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg says that he doesn’t think the situation could be exaggerated if the probe finds that the companies have been fixing prices. Gas is one of the biggest bills for households and businesses at this time of year. If evidence of price fixing is uncovered, people will be enraged.

Former rock star and sex offender Gary Glitter was arrested on Sunday by police investigating the allegations of child sex abuse against late BBC show host Jimmy Savile. This has raised more questions as to if Savile was at the centre of a wider pedophile ring.

Although authorities wouldn’t specifically identify the arrested suspect, media reported that it was 68-year-old Glitter. Video footage showed him wearing a dark coat, sunglasses and hat as he was taken from his home. When police were asked about him, a spokesman only said that they arrested a man in his 60s. Later he was released and is due to return to a police station in London in December for more questioning.

His arrest is the first in the BBC investigation, which started getting a lot of attention earlier in the month following a television documentary that showed several women who claimed that Savile abused them as teens. Since then, hundreds of possible victims have made similar claims against the former children’s TV presenter, who passed away last year at the age of 84. However, some have made claims of sex abuse by others at the broadcaster.

This scandal has people questioning if the BBC ignored suspected crimes over several decades, and executives have apologised, promising to uncover everything. BBC Trust chairman Chris Patten says that their reputation is on the line. They risk misusing the public’s trust due to one star from over 30 years ago being an apparent sexual criminal, as well as because others at the company may have been involved too.
